GRE stands for Graduate Record Examinations in its entire form. It is a standardised test that ETS administers (Educational Testing Services). Most of the top graduate level colleges accept ETS GRE scores for master's degree programmes (like the popular Master of Science degree – MS in USA). If you also want to know about what is a good GMAT score, then you can read our blog on it.
It has undergone numerous changes over the years. Its most recent incarnation is known as the GRE revised General Test.
GRE Exam Eligibility
The identification document is the only prerequisite for taking the GRE. You'll need a current passport to enter India. You must obtain an actual passport—not a photocopy—with your entire name, a clean photo, and your signature. You should also know about GRE exam eligibility.
No other form of identification verification, such as a birth certificate or international driver's licence, is acceptable. They have tight rules regarding this.
The ETS does not impose any other age, qualification, or timing-related prerequisites aside from this eligibility condition. However, universities that accept GRE results will have a variety of eligibility requirements. They may have minimum age, experience, and qualification-related filters for each of their programmes. You should also read about GRE preparation books.
GRE Centers in India
The GRE test is given in the following cities in India (mainly by Prometric and also by other independent teams outside the Prometric network):

The computerised test might not be available from all of them. Some test providers might provide paper versions.

There might be more GRE exam centres in more recent Indian cities in the coming years as ETS grows its presence there.
Once you choose the country (India) and city from the dropdown menu, you'll be able to find the precise address and seat availability on the ETS website.
GRE Exam fee
The GRE has a registration cost of $205. This costs less than the $250 GMAT fee that you must pay. For test takers who can provide proof of their financial difficulty, ETS is also willing to be lenient with regard to the GRE exam fee.
If you want to reschedule the exam or change your facility, there are additional fees ($50).
The cost of the GRE exam in Indian rupees is 13,500. This test pricing is based on a rupee to dollar exchange rate of 66. Find the most recent GRE test registration cost in rupees using the going rate.
